JBL's Summit Series has reached its pinnacle with the introduction of the Everest and K2 loudspeakers. These new additions join the existing Summit Makalu, Summit Pumori, and Summit Ama models, collectively forming a formidable lineup. The Summit Series is the fifth family of loudspeakers in JBL's history to bear the prestigious 'Project' designation, a title previously reserved for the Hartsfield, Paragon, Project Everest, and Project K2 lines. The Everest, a 3.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker, boasts an impressive array of features. Its high-frequency system, comprising three D2820 2" dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression drivers, is coupled with a 3-into-1 expansion manifold and a large-format Sonoglass HDI horn. Mid-bass reproduction is entrusted to a pair of 10" cast-frame Differential Drive drivers, while low-frequency performance is handled by dual 15" cast-frame Differential Drive drivers with JBL's innovative Hybrid Carbon Cellulose Composite Cone (HC4). This combination results in a remarkable bandwidth of 20 Hz to beyond 23 kHz and a sensitivity of 96dB (2.83V/1m).
The Everest's substantial dimensions (56.8" x 39.1" x 27.3") and weight (523 lbs or 237.2 kg) are a testament to its robust construction. The K2's dimensions (50.4" x 25.0" x 18.1") and weight (239 lbs or 108.4 kg) are slightly more compact than the Everest's, making it a more manageable option for some audiophiles. Recommended amplifier power for the K2 ranges from 25 to 600W into a nominal 4-ohm load, with a minimum impedance of 3.27 ohms at 86.8Hz.
Both loudspeakers feature an advanced MultiCap crossover network, which replaces conventional large capacitors with multiple smaller ones. This design reduces electrostatic resistance and energy loss, ensuring optimal sound reproduction. The internal wiring is crafted from Ohno-Continuous-Cast long-crystal oxygen-free silver-plated copper, and the binding posts are rhodium-plated and carbon-fibre wrapped for enhanced conductivity.
The cabinets of the Everest and K2 are meticulously constructed with internally offset, multi-braced, and damped designs. Pressed curved walls are employed to suppress internal standing waves, ensuring a clean and accurate soundstage.
